"There went out a champion… named Goliath, of Gath… Then said David... the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and He will give you into our hands" (1 Samuel 17:4,45-47). "Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle… The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory" (Psalm 24:8-10). "Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and… the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory" (Acts 12:21-23).
The
champion of Gath drew near,
Goliath,
with his daunting height,
To
blaspheme God with sword and spear,
Despising
David in his sight.
Goliath
didn't understand
That
his Opponent was the LORD.
The
King of glory thus had planned
To
save with neither spear nor sword.
Goliath
would not be the last
To
find out that our Lord is strong.
He's
one of many in the past
Who
found (as Herod) he was wrong.
O
Lord, as in Goliath's story,
The
champions that men applaud
Who
yet refuse to give You glory
Shall
know that You alone are God.
