“The enemy said, I will pursue… my hand shall destroy them… They sank as lead in the mighty waters” (Exodus 15:9,10). “There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand” (Proverbs 19:21). “God…to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath… to lay hold upon the hope set before us: which hope we have as an anchor of the soul” (Hebrews 6:17-19).
When
Pharaoh’s armies filled the land
To
bring destruction as they thought,
The
Lord stretched forth His mighty hand,
And
all their counsel came to naught.
As
Pharaoh through rebellion learned,
His
counsel turned from bad to worse.
When
warnings from the Lord were spurned,
He
brought upon himself a curse.
The
heart of man may be enticed
With
counsel to reject the Lord
And
spurn the priceless gift of Christ
When
His salvation is ignored.
We
hear this dogma taught in schools
Where
teachers blindly lead the blind
With
counsel that is held by fools
Who
perish with a darkened mind.
The
counsel of the Lord is sure:
He
has confirmed it with an oath.
His
promise and His oath are pure;
Our
hope is anchored in them both!
Lord,
thank You for this confidence
Which,
by Your counsel, You impart,
Confirming
in the strongest sense
The
hope You’ve given to our heart!
Lord,
send us now to show this grace
To
souls who are in darkness still
That,
by Your Word, they may embrace
The
counsel anchored to Your will.
