“The LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod… Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb (Heb. “desolate”); and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel” (Exodus 17:5,6). “Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law” (Psalm 119:18). “After those days, saith the Lord; I will put My laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts… all shall know Me, from the least to the greatest… For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more” (Hebrews 8:10-12).
The
Lord revealed in His talk
With
Moses, whom He was commanding,
That
He would be upon the rock
Before
the place where he was standing.
The
Lord told Moses there to smite
That
rock at Horeb with His rod.
Though
He was hid from human sight,
The
eyes of faith revealed God.
How
desolate that rock had been
Which
could not satisfy the thirst
Or
save the lives of mortal men
Unless
the Lord had been their first.
We
see much more with open eyes
Which
God alone can give to us:
Behold
the cross where Jesus dies,
With
His redemption offered thus!
The
days are coming, says the Lord,
When
all shall know Him, great and small.
Yet
even now He will afford
The
grace to hear His Spirit’s call.
Our
God now gives the eyes to see
The
Savior whom He will reveal,
Who
died for us at Calvary
And
lives forevermore to heal.
O
Lord, we thank You that You’ve shown
Our
thirst could not be satisfied
Unless
by grace You could be known
To
those with whom You would abide.
We
thank You, Lord, and we rejoice
That
You impart this revelation,
For
we have heard Your gracious voice,
And
we have seen Your great salvation!
Lord,
help us by Your Holy Spirit
To
take the Gospel of Your grace
To
hearts that You prepare to hear it,
Revealed
as they seek Your face.
