“Labor
not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes
upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they
fly away as an eagle toward heaven… but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the
day long. For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be
cut off” (Proverbs 24:4-18). “He that overcometh shall inherit all
things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son” (Revelation 21:7).
Our
labor surely has an end:
We
ought give this careful thought.
Will
it be worth the price we spend,
Or
do we hope for what is not?
It’s
time to clarify our goals
And
live for things that last forever!
Our
Savior lived and died for souls;
He
leads us still in this endeavor.
We
cannot work for our salvation,
But
we can live to please our Lord.
We
have our Savior’s invitation:
What
treasures here may be explored!
Our
Father knows we need such things
For
living such as daily bread.
Yet
earthly riches make their wings
And
fly away when we are dead.
We
ought to live for things that last
Beyond
the soon approaching grave.
This
life on earth will soon be passed,
But
souls endure which Christ would save.
It
matters not where we are from,
But
rather now where we are going.
By
faith we’re saved and overcome,
Yet
if we’re saved, it should be showing.
Our
labor here on earth is flawed;
The
work that saves us has been done!
We
are redeemed now by our God,
And
by new birth, we’re called His son.
You are, O Lord, our only Peace:
By
grace we’re saved and have Your favor.
Our
work and wisdom here must cease:
We
trust in You, our Lord and Savior!
May
our endeavors, Lord, express
Our
grateful love in all we do,
And
may our labors serve to bless
And
draw more souls to trust in You!
