Latter Rain of our Lord's Reign

“He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth” (Psalm 72:6).  “In the light of the King's countenance is life; and His favor is as a cloud of the latter rain” (Proverbs 16:15).

The former and the latter rains
In their appointed times descend,
And by their coming, each contains
Prophetic signs to comprehend.

The former rain upon the earth
Portrays the time Christ came to dwell
Among us by His humble birth,
As “God with us,” Emmanuel.

He came in deep humility.
He came to suffer and to die
To rescue us eternally,
As all the prophets testify.

The latter rain depicts the time
When Christ shall come to reign at last.
His majesty shall be sublime;
His beauty shall be unsurpassed.

Now wisdom teaches us to fear,
To seek the Lord, and find His favor.
The coming of the Lord draws near;
The time is NOW to trust the Savior!

O Lord, we know that You shall come
As rain upon this thirsty land.
Foreseeing Your millennium,
We see Your coming is at hand.

Lord, satisfy our hearts with grace
As thirsty ground for rain will yearn,
As we delight to seek Your face,
Anticipating Your return.
