Correcting our Corruption

"The LORD smote the king (Azariah/Uzziah), so that he was a leper unto the day of his death" (2 Kings 15:5).  "In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up" (Isaiah 6:1).  "Thou wast a God that forgavest them, though Thou tookest vengeance of their inventions.  Exalt the LORD our God… for the LORD our God is holy" (Psalm 99:8,9).  "God also hath highly exalted Him… that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… Jesus Christ is Lord" (Philippians 2:9-11). 

The kings and priests who served the Lord

Were subject to the Lord's inspection. 

Uzziah's death would thus afford

A monument of God's correction. 

Uzziah was a man of God,

But when he stumbled in his pride,

The Lord reproved him with His rod: 

He was a leper till he died. 

The Lord is weighing our intentions

As He examines every heart. 

He sees the pride of our inventions

From which He calls us to depart. 

Exalt Your name in us, O Christ,

Reproving every interruption

With which our hearts may be enticed

As You're correcting our corruption.
