"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.... The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going" (Proverbs 14:12,15). "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you" (Matthew 24:4).
There is a way which may seem right,
Yet in the ways of death it ends.
We need to prove things in the light
By what the Word of God commends.
There is a path the simple take,
Believing every word they hear.
They do not care what is at stake,
As long as it will please their ear.
It may be hope in vain religion,
It may be idols they have known.
It may be holding to tradition
Instead of trusting Christ alone.
The prudent look for evidence
In what the Word of God will say.
No other path to them makes sense,
Though others mock its narrow way.
Our Savior warned us to take heed
Of deadly and deceptive arts.
If we will let His counsel lead,
Then no one shall deceive our hearts.
O Lord, we thank You for Your Word,
For by its truth You made us free!
It is the Gospel we have heard
That saves our souls eternally!
