"And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? Israel hath sinned... for they have taken of the accursed thing.... neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you" (Joshua 7:10-12). "Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed. And that was counted unto for righteousness unto all generations for evermore" (Psalm 106:30,31).
These are days when we should pray,
Yet days to also stand
To hear God's Word and to obey
His practical command.
For we may pray with earnest tears,
Yet find God interrupts
To show us sin that interferes,
That hinders, and corrupts.
Joshua and Phinehas
Were men of prayer and action.
Their examples speak to us
Of how to purge distraction.
For these were leaders who had learned
To deal at once with sin
And purge its poison when discerned,
Before it could begin.
More than ever now we need
To learn from their successes!
May we, like them, learn to lead
Upon the path God blesses.
