"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor, rather than silver or gold” (Proverbs 22:1). “Andrew…. findeth his own brother Simon.... and he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, He said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone” (John 1:40-42).
There is a new name God bestows
To everyone who comes to Jesus;
A purpose seen He only knows,
As was that given name of Cephas.
Cephas, by interpretation,
Was “a stone” that Christ could see.
The solid Rock of his salvation
Would change him for eternity.
What a difference Christ has made
Since the day that we have met!
We are His workmanship displayed,
And still He is not finished yet!
There is a purpose that’s reflected
In the new name that Christ gives
That’s clarified as we're perfected
Because our Savior in us lives.
