"The LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains… but the LORD was not in the wind… the LORD was not in the earthquake… the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice… said, What doest thou here, Elijah?" (1 Kings 19:11-13). "I answered thee in the secret place of thunder" (Psalm 81:7). "His secret is with the righteous… He giveth grace unto the lowly" (Proverbs 3:32,34). "Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable Gift" (2 Corinthians 9:15).
Elijah prayed
that he might die
As he expressed
his heart's desire.
How gentle was
the Lord's reply,
Not in the wind,
or quake, or fire.
It was a gentle,
still, small voice
Elijah in his
sorrow heard,
That made his
heart again rejoice
With secret solace
from God's Word.
The secret of the
Lord is found
With those who
humbly seek His face.
To such His
solace shall abound,
For to the lowly
He gives grace.
The secret
solace of our soul,
O Lord, is now
our proclamation
To show Your Gift
Unspeakable:
Your sacrifice
for our salvation!
