"An host [of Syrians] compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his [Elisha's] servant said unto him, Alas, my master! How shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them…. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha" (2 Kings 6:15-17). "So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom" (Psalm 90:12).
There is a need
to number those
Who are with us
from heaven's ranks
(Who far
outnumber all our foes)
With opened eyes
to give God thanks.
Elisha's servant
was a youth
Who said
"Alas… how shall we do?"
His eyes were
opened to the truth
To see God's
host from heaven's view.
There is a need
to number days
That we may live
a life that's wise
And give to God
a heart of praise,
Redeeming time
with opened eyes.
O Lord, we see
the need to number
The things that
really matter most,
Lest days be
wasted by our slumber
Or we lose sight
of heaven's host.
