"The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts… Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?" (Proverbs 17:3,16). "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. And why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" (Luke 6:45,46).
The furnace will
refine the gold,
And by its flame
the dross departs,
But God continues
to behold
And try the
treasure of our hearts.
The Lord can
hear the vain request
For wisdom that
is not sincere.
His eyes behold
and surely test
The treasure
that the heart holds dear.
There is a
treasure that is good
Within the heart
God will commend.
The evil heart
is understood
And warned of
judgment in the end.
As You examine
us within,
We pray, Lord, You
will purge the dross
Of insincerity
and sin,
And try our
treasure by Your cross!
