Counsel of Confusion

"O send out Thy light and Thy truth: let them lead me" (Psalm 43:3).  "Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end... Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge" (Proverbs 19:20,27).  "Know therefore and understand... Messiah [shall] be cut off, but not for Himself" (Daniel 9:25,26).  "Having eyes, see ye not?  And having ears, hear ye not?  And do ye not remember?... How is it that ye do not understand?" (Mark 8:18,21).

Should not God's people hear His voice
And by His light and truth be led?
Should not we firmly fix our choice
To hear and do what He has said?

This world's counsel of seduction
Should never catch us by surprise
If we receive the Lord's instruction
With counsel that will make us wise.

Though mockers in our day will scoff
At prophesies that Christ fulfilled,
Our Lord shall come who was cut off,
And every mocker shall be stilled.

Lord, as the counsel of confusion
Is blinding eyes that ought to see,
Your counsel anchors our conclusion
With truth that stands and makes us free.
