Merciful Memorial

"Thy name, O LORD, endureth for ever; and Thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations" (Psalm 135:13).  "Thine expectation shall not be cut off" (Proverbs 23:18).  "This I recall to my mind... the LORD'S mercies... are new every morning" (Lamentations 3:21-23).  "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life... that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy" (Jude 24,25).

How good it is to meditate
Upon our Savior's reputation
And joyfully anticipate
His mercy in our expectation.

His merciful memorial
Is pleasant as we call to mind
His mercies every day are full
Which every morning we may find.

Though we're inclined to stray like sheep,
Our expectation rightly is
That in His love our Lord will keep
Each precious soul He claims as His.

O Lord, how merciful You are
As Your memorial makes clear,
Reminding us who once were far,
That we are by Your grace brought near!
