“David was greatly distressed… but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God” (1 Samuel 30:6). “Except the LORD build the house, they labor in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain… to eat the bread of sorrows” (Psalm 127:1,2). “For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God… Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts” (1 Corinthians 1:20-22).
When
David was greatly distressed,
He
strengthened himself in the Lord.
With
no other place to find rest,
To
God, then, his heart was outpoured.
The
sooner we learn this, the better,
For
all other prospects are vain!
The
Lord keeps His Word to the letter;
Each
promise He made He’ll sustain.
We’re
building our house on the sand
Except
by the Lord it is founded.
The
city, though guarded, won’t stand
Except
by the Lord it’s surrounded.
It’s
vain to be drowned in our sorrow,
When
we should be looking above!
The
prospects today and tomorrow
Are
YEA and AMEN in His love!
Behold,
we are sealed forever
In
Christ by His Spirit He gave,
And
nothing can evermore sever
From
Him every soul He will save!
O
Lord, we give thanks for Your Word!
When
heaven and earth pass away,
Your
promises which we have heard
Shall
all be fulfilled in their day!
And
so we encourage our heart
And
speak to the lost of our Savior:
Though
heaven and earth shall depart,
We’re
kept by His promise of favor.
