“BUT GOD commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). “BUT GOD, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ (by grace ye are saved)” (Ephesians 2:4,5).
Once
we were lost and yet without strength,
With
the sentence of judgment ahead;
Hopelessly
doomed for eternity’s length,
Like
sheep to the slaughter were led.
What
hope could there be? We were destined to
die,
With
no one to stand in our place.
Who
would (if he could) pay a ransom so high
For
an ungodly human race?
But God – displaying His wonderful love!
But God – sent us His Son from above!
But God – while we were yet in our sin!
But God – died for the souls He would win!
Once
we were dead in trespasses and sins,
As
we walked in the course of this world;
Caught
in the web Satan subtlety spins,
Into
which we were helplessly hurled.
Fulfilling
the lust of the flesh and the mind,
By
nature the children of wrath;
Strangers
to God, never hoping to find
The
light in our dark, fearful path.
But God – even when we were dead!
But God – sent Christ to die in our stead!
But God – raised us with Christ from the grave!
But God – alone by His grace can save!
