“Now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I… And, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said… thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. And the kinsman said… redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it” (Ruth 3:12, 4:1-6). “The law worketh wrath… What He had promised, He was able also to perform” (Romans 4:15,21).
The
portraits have been beautiful
Displayed
in Boaz and in Ruth.
The
great Redeemer of our soul
Is
manifested there in truth.
Yet
now we see a nearer kin
Which,
to this point, we never saw,
Who
cannot save the lost from sin:
The
nearer kinsman is the Law!
The
Law cannot redeem the stranger,
As
Ruth, the Moabitess, was.
It
cannot ransom us from danger,
As
our Redeemer surely does.
The
Law cannot provide redemption,
It
only clarifies our guilt.
For
sinners it has no exemption
For
an acquittal to be built.
The
Law, therefore, requires wrath,
The
just reward for sinful deeds.
Salvation
has another path,
For
our Redeemer met our needs!
What
You had promised, Lord, You did:
You
gave Your life in that dark hour!
Our
ransomed souls in You are hid,
Which
You have purchased by Your power!
Lord,
thank You for the price You paid
When
You became our Sacrifice.
Your
purchase power is displayed:
You
gave Yourself to pay the price!
