With Wisdom

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom… And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish Thou the work of our hands upon us” (Psalm 90:12,17).  “Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, that I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?” (Proverbs 22:20,21).  “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.  Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man” (Colossians 4:5,6). 

Our days are numbered here on earth;

May we have wisdom in our walk!

The grave awaits us from our birth;

May grace be present in our talk!

                                

So let the beauty of the Lord

Be seen in all we do and say

Through wisdom that He will afford

To hear His voice and to obey. 

God counsels us with excellence

And certainty in every season

That we may speak with confidence

To everyone who asks a reason.

So let us talk of things sublime

And walk in wisdom by God’s grace,

That we may thus redeem time

Which God allots us in this place. 

Lord, thank You for the certainty

That You provide, removing doubt,

Exhibited in prophecy

Which we may wisely talk about.

Until at last we’re home with You,

Lord, teach more about Your plan

That we, with grace, may show what’s true

And wisely answer every man.
