Ignominy of Ignorance

“Teach me Thy way, O LORD; I will walk in Thy truth” (Psalm 86:11).  “Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.  A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself… then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach... The wellspring of wisdom [is] as a flowing brook” (Proverbs 18:1-4).  “Whatsoever things are true… think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

The ignorance that ISN’T bliss
Ignores the truth that God will show,
Which only fools would dare dismiss,
Content with what they think they know.

The works of God are on display
That show His glory in creation.
The Word of God will teach His way
That we may walk in His salvation.

The prophecies that Christ fulfilled
Should silence those who yet are scorning,
But ignorance will not be stilled
When stubborn hearts refuse God’s warning.

The reputation of God’s name
Robs ignorance of its defense,
Then ignominy comes with shame
With judgment as its consequence.

Yet through desire man departs
From arrogance so prevalent,
Discerning ignorance in hearts
Of those refusing to repent.

We come to wells of truth to drink
With words of wisdom like a brook.
Upon these things we’re called to think,
Which we discover in God’s Book.

Lord, whatsoever things are true
Which You reveal make us free.
We know these things concerning You
Are true for all eternity!

Your Word, Lord, like a flowing well
Has more than satisfied our thirst!
It prompts our hearts to go and tell
The way that You have loved us first!

Lord, thank You for removing thus
The ignominy of our sin.
Your righteousness now covers us,
Imputed when You entered in!
