Christmas Day
“Think
on me when it shall be well with thee” (Genesis 40:23). “Thy throne is established of old: Thou art from everlasting” (Psalm 93:2). “As
cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is
good news from a far country” (Proverbs 25:25). “For what thanks can we render to God… for
all the joy wherewith we joy ?” (1 Thessalonians 3:9).
We
think on Jesus Christ our Savior
Who
left His everlasting throne
To
thus extend to us His favor
And
make His great salvation known.
As
waters to a thirsty soul
His
good news satisfies our thirst.
He
gave His cup with blessings full,
Yet
drank our cup of judgment cursed.
What
thanks to God can we now render
For
all the joy our Savior gives?
He
died to be our soul’s Defender
And
as our Savior ever lives!
So
let our hearts embrace this season,
Recalling
more than just His manger.
Remember
now our Savior’s reason:
He
came to rescue us from danger!
He
knew the price that He would pay
To
ransom us from endless loss.
He
saw that dark, approaching day
When
He would suffer on the cross.
Though
we have never looked at hell,
Our
Lord beheld it with alarm
And
died so that it might be well
With
souls for whom He suffered harm.
O
Lord, Your purpose was not hid
Which
prophets had declared for ages,
For
all that they foretold, You did,
Reported
in the Scripture’s pages.
We
come to thank You, precious Lord,
And
praise You for Your wondrous love,
As
wise men likewise once adored,
And
shepherds heard it from above.
Lord,
till the day we see Your face,
We
take the message shepherds heard
To
bring remembrance of Your grace,
And
preach the Gospel with Your Word.
