“Who
then is able to stand before Me?” (Job 41:10).
“Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake Thy
law” (Psalm 119:53). “The name of the
LORD is a strong tower: the
righteous runneth into it, and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10). “No flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God
is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption”
(1 Corinthians 1:29,30).
Alas! Who is able to stand before God,
Where
sin must be judged in His pure, holy eyes?
How
foolishly sinners have carelessly trod
On
ground that is holy and grace they despise!
Nobody
will stand before God without awe
When
souls are assembled before His great throne.
What
horror awaits those forsaking His law,
When
God’s holy wrath shall be then clearly shown.
There’s
only one place we may stand in that hour,
Where
we shall be spotlessly found without blame:
Behold! In Christ Jesus we have a strong Tower
Where
sinners may run as they call on His name!
We
glory in Christ and in His reputation:
For
this is the Tower where He shuts us in.
His
wisdom, His righteousness, sanctification,
And
His great redemption purged all of our sin!
We
thank You, O Lord, for a Refuge from terror,
So
freely provided, yet horribly priced!
Now
help us lead others to turn from their error
And
flee to Your Tower afforded in Christ.
