“Stand
still, and consider the wondrous works of God” (Job 37:14). “Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold
wondrous things out of Thy law” (Psalm 119:18).
“The prudent man looketh
well to his going… The wicked is driven away in his wickedness:
but the righteous hath hope in his death” (Proverbs 14:15,32). “Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep…
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works
of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:11,12).
We live in a world exceedingly odd
Where many refuse to stand still.
They neither consider the works of our God,
Nor contemplate doing His will.
So let us stand still to observe and be wise,
Beholding God’s works and His word,
That we may behold wondrous things with our eyes,
Discerning the things we have heard.
Stand still, contemplating which way you are going;
The prudent man ponders this well.
The wicked continue to walk without knowing
The path they are on leads to hell.
Let all who have trusted the Lord now awake,
Discerning these days we are in!
The night is far spent, and there’s so much at stake
For those who are lost in their sin!
So many are driven to slaughter like cattle
When they should be looking ahead!
How blindly they march on like captives in battle,
And thus to their graves they are led.
They ought to stand still and consider their plight,
Regardless of who else objects,
And we should be donning the armor of light
To show them our Lord who protects!
O Lord, since the stakes are so high in our day,
We know that it’s not time to sleep!
You’ve called us to battle, to watch, and to pray;
You’ve sent us to rescue Your sheep.
We thank You, O Lord, that You caused us to yield
To stand still and find Your salvation!
As You send us forth on this great battlefield,
Your Gospel is our proclamation.
