Divine vs. Doubtful Disputations

“Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?” (Job 38:1,2).  “I have chosen the way of truth: Thy judgments have I laid before me” (Psalm 119:30).  “The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.… The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom” (Proverbs 15:28,33).  “Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations” (Romans 14:1).

When God Himself answered the discourse of Job,
Divinely responding with His interruption,
He came with His own set of questions to probe
The words without knowledge that needed instruction.

Though doubtful disputers may have good intentions,
As Job’s three companions apparently had,
We ought to be careful that self-willed inventions
Do not give occasion for that which is bad.

We’ve chosen the way of the truth in salvation,
So let us not argue about doubtful things.
Let each word be chosen for edification,
Divine exhortation, and comfort it brings.

We ought to be mindful of those who need God,
So we may have speech that is seasoned with grace.
We shouldn’t be looking for those who applaud,
But for the approval upon our Lord’s face.

O Lord, grant us wisdom that we may align
The things that we say with the truth we have heard.
May every dispute that we have be Divine,
Defending the truth of Your inerrant Word.
