"Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept" (Mark 15:72).
How thoughtless we may often be
In words and deeds unkind
Until we think on Calvary,
And call our Lord to mind.
Peter once became aware,
Before he was restored,
That even he could curse and swear,
Denying thus his Lord.
But after thinking on the Word
That Jesus Christ had spoken,
He called to mind what he had heard,
And then his heart was broken.
When Peter thought thereon, he wept,
And so indeed should we,
When we perceive we have not kept
The Word that makes us free.
And thus we find ourselves enslaved
With testimony gone
Because of how we have behaved,
Until we think thereon.
O Lord, we know these things are written
To warn of such behavior.
So teach our hearts to thus be smitten,
And think upon our Savior.
