Shield and Surety

"Thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head" (Psalm 3:3). "Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him" (Proverbs 30:5).

There is an unseen battlefield
That faces us each day,
But You, O Lord, are still my Shield,
My Surety, and Stay.

There is a glory that parades
Upon this world's path,
But, Lord, Your glory never fades
That saves my soul from wrath.

There is a sorrow and a dread
That unbelievers share,
But You're the Lifter of my head,
On whom I cast my care.

There is a Shield and Surety,
For all who trust God's Word:
It is the Lord eternally;
Our hearts are thus assured!
