"They sinned still, and believed not for His wondrous works. Therefore their days did He consume in vanity… Then they sought Him: and they returned and inquired early after God. And they remembered that God was their Rock, and the high God their Redeemer" (Psalm 78:32-35). "I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will… remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent" (Revelation 2:4,5).
How sad it is to be consumed
With vanity because of sin!
This very threat today has loomed
In hearts where hardness settles in!
Revival starts when one remembers
The cost at which we were redeemed.
We need to stir and fan the embers
In faith more fragile than it seemed.
The Lord indicted Ephesus
For first love which was left behind.
Should not this charge now speak to us
Who know our first love has declined?
O Lord, as we remember You,
And Your great love we thus discern,
Our hearts repent, which You renew,
And to our first love we return.
