"Great is the LORD… The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion" (Psalm 145:3,8). "By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil" (Proverbs 16:6). "My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water" (Jeremiah 2:13). "Ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).
How
great and gracious is the Lord:
By
His compassion He was urged
To
bear the judgment on Him poured
By
which iniquity is purged!
The
fear of God now prompts the heart
To
view His cross on Calvary's mountain,
And
thus from evil to depart
To
find our Savior's
cleansing fountain.
His
love would lead Him to the
slaughter
To
save our souls from condemnation,
Enriching
us with living water
By
dying to impart salvation.
How
great and gracious, Lord, You are!
You
set aside majestic splendor
To
draw us near who once were far
By
dying as our soul's Defender!
