"The children of Issachar… had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do… Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war… which could keep rank: they were not of double heart" (1 Chronicles 12:32,33). "Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law" (Psalm 119:18). "Endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ... Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:3,15).
The workmen and
warriors too
With David were
all taking part
In times when
they knew what to do
In earnest
without double heart.
May God likewise
open our eyes,
Enlightening us
by His Word,
As workmen and
warriors wise,
Whose hearts by
His Spirit are stirred.
As workmen
receiving instruction,
As warriors heeding
commands,
We turn from
this world's seduction
To counsel from
heaven that stands.
As workmen and
warriors, Lord,
We've joined
with Your heavenly ranks,
Who praise You
in joyful accord,
Unceasingly
giving You thanks.
