"Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the LORD... that brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD" (Leviticus 22:29-33). "Behold, God is mine Helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul" (Psalm 54:4). "Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end" (Proverbs 19:20). "Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the friend of God" (James 2:23).
The
Lord befriended Israel's ranks
When
they were frail, helpless slaves
That
they might offer Him their thanks
And
show how graciously He saves.
The
same may likewise now be said
Of
every sinner who depends
On
Christ, who suffered our stead
And
died to rescue frail friends.
It
is not wise to think we're strong,
As
if we do not need the Savior.
The
latter end is proving wrong
All
those who yet reject His favor.
O
Lord, we are like Abraham,
So
frail when he was so old,
Yet
trusting in the great I Am,
As
friends of God, You make us bold!
