"An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbor: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered" (Proverbs 11:9). "Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matthew 15:7-9).
How
harmful hypocrisy is
To
those who are thereby enticed.
Yet
God rescues all who are His
As
they fill their vision with Christ.
How
sharply of this has God spoken
To
those who pretend to draw near!
God
sees the commands they have broken;
Hypocrisy
to Him is clear.
In
vain do they put on their show
Of
outward religious behavior,
As
if somehow God does not know
Their
heart which despises the Savior.
O
Lord, You have certainly seen
The
hypocrite's harmful effect
On
those who mistakenly lean
On
liars they did not detect.
Lord,
help us to focus on You,
Undaunted
by hypocrites then,
Delighting
in all that is true
Instead
of the falsehood in men.
Now
fixing our eyes on Your face,
We
find, Lord, no cause for alarm.
Thus
held in Your endless embrace,
The
hypocrite causes no harm.
