"Our God is in the heavens: He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased" (Psalm 115:3). "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when Thou shalt make His soul an Offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand" (Isaiah 53:10). "He saved others; Himself He cannot save... He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him: for He said, I am the Son of God" (Matthew 27:42,43).
Our
God in heaven is enthroned;
There's
no one who can force His hand.
The
universe by Him is owned;
He
made it all by His command.
He
does according to His pleasure,
Consistent
with His truth and love.
In
view of this, we greatly treasure
His
choice to leave His throne above.
For
it has pleased the Father well
To
bruise our Savior, His own Son,
That
He might save our souls from hell
When
His redemption's work was done.
"He
cannot save Himself," they said
Who
mocked our Savior as He died.
They
taunted God, and wagged their head,
Thus
blinded by their hateful pride.
O
Lord, it's hard to contemplate
The
love that held You in that place
Surrounded
then by so much hate
From
those You would have saved by grace!
We
cherish, Lord, Your wondrous choice
Through
love that never was diminished!
We
shout for joy to hear Your voice
Declare
at last that "It is finished!"
How
greatly, Lord, Your choice is cherished
By
all who enter Your salvation!
But
for Your love we would have perished
In
hopeless, endless condemnation.
The
choice You made, Lord, we proclaim
That
others may consider too
The
gracious reason that You came
And
thus be moved to cherish You.
