Heaven's Answer to Heathen Anger

"Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, when God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth" (Psalm 76:8,9). "In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge (מַחֲסֶה machaceh a shelter)... The righteous hath hope (חָסָה chacah, protection) in his death" (Proverbs 14:26,32).  "O Lord God Almighty... Thou hast taken to Thee Thy great power, and hast reigned.  And the nations were angry, and Thy wrath is come" (Revelation 11:17,18).

From heaven was God's judgment heard
When clouds were gathered thick and dark
When Noah had obeyed His Word
And moved with fear to build the ark.

When Pharaoh heard the Lord's command
By Moses:  "Let My people go,"
He saw the judgment of God's hand
From heaven's throne to earth below.

Thus heaven answered with God's wrath
To free His people who were slaves,
And so the heathen saw the path
By which God rescues those He saves.

In God we find our confidence
Beneath the shadow of His wings,
For Christ Himself is our Defense;
He is the sovereign King of kings.

The final enemy is death,
Which heaven answered by the cross
Where Jesus offered every breath
To rescue us from endless loss.

Yet Jesus Christ shall reign on earth,
Exalted when He comes again,
When trembling shall replace the mirth
Among the angry heathen then.

O Lord, You've made it very plain
From Genesis to Revelation,
That You shall come at last to reign
As sovereign Lord of every nation.

Until that day, Lord, we proclaim
That heaven answers now with favor
When sinners call upon Your name
And humbly trust You as their Savior!
