"For great is Thy mercy toward me: and Thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell" (Psalm 86:13). "And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it... And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life... And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:11-15).
How
great is the mercy of God?
With
what shall we measure its height?
How
deep is His pity? How broad?
How
shall we assess it aright?
How
great is the span of His love?
It's
greater than language can tell!
It
reaches from heaven above
That
we might be rescued from hell.
God's
justice could not be denied,
Yet
God in His love found a way
That
judgment could be satisfied,
Though
all we like sheep went astray.
God's
measure of mercy is great,
Yet
sadly it's often rejected
When
love is requited with hate,
And
God's saving grace is neglected.
God's
Spirit shall not always strive,
As
in Noah's day it was said,
For
judgment one day shall arrive
Replacing
God's mercy instead.
The
sins which the lost overlooks
In
souls yet refusing our Lord,
Are
listed, each one, in the books,
And
none of them shall be ignored.
How
great is the dreadful mistake
Of
all who refuse Christ our Savior,
Consigning
themselves to hell's lake
Instead
of His merciful favor!
Lord,
help us to make mercy known
By
showing the price that You paid
To
justify us at Your throne
With
love that You clearly displayed.
O
Lord, there is no greater treasure
Than
mercy at so great a cost:
Your
life that You gave is its measure,
Which
ransoms forever the lost!
