Better Blood

"Wisdom hath... killed her beasts, she hath mingled her wine, she hath also furnished her table.... As for him that wanteth understanding, she saith unto him, Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. Forsake the foolish, and live, and go in the way of understanding" (Proverbs 9:1-6). "Ye are come... to Jesus, the Mediator of the New Covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel" (Hebrews 12:22-24).

Now wisdom is calling to all who will hear
To come the feast that is spread on her table.
The beasts have been slain, and yet it is clear,
There's blood that is better than these and of Abel.

The blood of such beasts have foreshadowed the Christ,
And Abel's blood cried from the ground against Cain.
Yet neither the blood of these beasts has sufficed
Nor Abel's to take away sin's guilty stain.

But now we have come to our Savior and Lord
Whose blood is sufficient to wash sins away!
The blood of His cross that He shed will afford
The ransom we need that no other could pay!

We thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your mediation
With blood that You shed on the cross when You died.
In Your precious blood we have found our salvation,
Our cleansing, redemption, and place where we hide.
