Bearing our Blame

"And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me.... I will be a SURETY for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me BEAR THE BLAME forever" (Genesis 43:8,9). "He that is SURETY for a stranger shall smart for it.... Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?" (Proverbs 11:15, 15:11). "He which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins" (James 5:20).

How clearly did Judah's commitment portray
The Lord as our Surety, bearing our blame!
Our Lord knew the price for our souls He would pay,
And knowing all this, He courageously came!

When hell and destruction, that horrible sight,
Were looming before Him as our destination,
With matchless compassion He left heaven's height
And came to our rescue to purchase salvation.

Lord, how can we thank You for what You have done?
You looked down, beholding our hearts from above,
And saw no one righteous; no, not even one,
Yet still You were moved to redeem us with love!

We praise You, Lord Jesus, as we contemplate
Our burden of sins on the cross that You bore.
Astonishing mercy! Compassion so great!
The more we remember, the more we adore!
