"O God the Lord, the Strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of battle" (Psalm 140:7). "A just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again" (Proverbs 24:16).
How often was there an attack
That went without detection,
When God was watching then our back
And gave our head protection!
How many times when we have slept
Was God our Guardian then?
How often, when we fell, He kept
And raised us up again!
Perhaps when we arrive in heaven
And look back on our life,
We'll see the times (much more than seven!)
God rescued us in strife.
Until that time we would be wise
To thank God constantly
For blessings hidden from our eyes
And those that we can see.
O Lord, before we even knew,
You sheltered us from loss
When all our sins were laid on You
Upon that cruel cross.
We thank You, Lord, because You are
The Strength of our salvation,
Our great Protector, never far
In every situation.
