"A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, He directeth his way" (Proverbs 21:29). "And as he [Paul] spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad.... Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian" (Acts 26:24,28).
The sinner with a hardened face
May speak with rage or apathy,
But either way he turns from grace
And misses heaven hopelessly.
Both Festus and Agrippa heard
The testimony that Paul gave.
One was angry; one was stirred,
But none of these responses save.
For both the one who will reject
The Lord with blasphemy like some,
Or simply chooses to neglect
Shall not escape the wrath to come.
O Lord, we thank You for Your voice
Which, by Your Spirit from above,
Persuaded us to make the choice
To turn to You and trust Your love.
