"If it had not been the LORD who was on our side.... then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul.... Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth" (Psalm 124:1-8). "And the hand of our God was upon us, and He delivered us from the hand of the enemy, and such as lay in wait by the way" (Ezra 8:31).
It's good for us to contemplate
Salvation with this thought:
Christ redeemed us from our fate,
But what if He had not?
How could we escape our sin
And our despair as well?
We'd see the end now closing in:
The precipice of hell!
Like a nightmare that remains
And worsens when we wake,
How could we escape the pains
Of hell's approaching lake?
But God descended from above
To take the sinner's place
And thus delivered us with love
Through His amazing grace!
O Lord, how lovely is the dawn
Since we awake with You!
The nightmare is forever gone,
For You made all things new!
