Guarding our Going

"The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore" (Psalm 121:8). "Ezra went up from Babylon, and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses... according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him. And.... to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him. For Ezra has prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments" (Ezra 7:6-10). "Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace. For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city" (Acts 18:9,10).

Now be not afraid, but rather be ready,
Assured that the Lord is preserving your soul.
The good hand of God will strengthen and steady
The hand of His servants who give Him control.

Ezra was ready to go where God led,
And so God was with him to show him His favor.
Preparing his heart to do what God said,
He taught what he modeled by his own behavior.

Paul was instructed by God in a vision
To stay in the city, and keep right on speaking.
God's hand would guard him throughout his commission,
As God drew the hearts of those truly seeking.

O Lord, we give thanks for Your promise to keep
And guide all our going and our coming in.
Receiving this promise, Lord, help us to reap
The souls You are drawing and saving from sin.
