"Is there not here a prophet of the LORD… that we might inquire of him?" (2 Chronicles 18:6). "Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did He… Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him… to make His soul an offering for sin" (Psalm 135:6, Isaiah 53:10). "A Friend loveth at all times, and a Brother is born for adversity" (Proverbs 17:17). "Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins… We love Him, because He first loved us" (1 John 4:10,19).
There was a
prophet of the Lord,
Among the many
God had sent,
Who told us of His
soul outpoured;
"It pleased
the Lord" to thus be spent.
The Lord has
done the things that please
His heart in all
of His creation.
Yet greater
still than all of these,
He gave Himself
for our salvation!
He was the
Offering for our crimes
To ransom us eternally,
Our Friend who
loved us at all times,
Our Brother in adversity.
O Lord, this
prophecy of pleasure
To rescue souls
which had been cursed
Has plumbed the
everlasting measure
Of boundless
love that loved us first!
