"The reproaches of them that reproached Thee are fallen upon Me... Reproach hath broken My heart; and I am full of heaviness" (Psalm 69:9,20). "Hell and destruction are before the LORD" (Proverbs 15:11). "All things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. For He shall be... mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: and they shall scourge Him, and put Him to death: and the third day He shall rise again" (Luke 18:31-33).
Behold
the heaviness that fell
On
Christ that He might grant us favor.
Reproach
from sinners and from hell
Were
heaped upon our Lord and Savior.
The
Lamb of God from heaven came
To
bear the burden of our sin
And
thus remove destruction's claim
From
those whom He would die to win.
The
things that prophets had foretold
Concerning
Christ our Lord were done.
His
awful treatment would unfold
Until
the battle had been won.
We
thank You, Lord, as now we see
Prophetic
truth in its perfection
Fulfilled
in Your humility
And in triumphant resurrection!
