“We have thought of Thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of Thy temple… For this God is our God forever and ever: He will be our Guide even unto death” (Psalm 48:9,14). “God… giveth grace unto the humble… Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you” (James 4:6-8).
The
lovingkindness of the Lord
Has
lavished us with saving grace.
What
mercies on us He has poured,
Which
we have thought of in this place!
For
this is God who made the stars
And
all their host with just His breath!
This
God will be forever ours
And
He will be our Guide till death.
In
darkness surely we would stumble
If
Satan thus would have his way,
But
God in mercy made us humble
And
drew us who had gone astray.
With
lovingkindness we were drawn
When
we had heard the invitation,
For
all our hope and help were gone
Apart
from Christ and His salvation!
Our
Savior stood then at the door
And
knocked that He might enter in.
How
strange it is that some ignore
His
offer to be saved from sin!
O
Lord, You saw us in our blindness
When
You came forth to seek and save.
You
showed to us Your lovingkindness
With
sight to see the grace You gave!
With
lovingkindness that You give,
Thus
lavished at so great a cost,
We
pray, Lord, that the life we live
May
now be used to draw the lost.
