“The LORD your God, He is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath” (Joshua 2:11). “He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth” (Psalm 72:6). “Surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off” (Proverbs 23:18). “For I came down from heaven… that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:33,40).
The
Lord our God enthroned above
Came
down from heaven to this earth.
Behold
the manner of His love
That
brought Him down in lowly birth!
Like
rain upon the thirsty grass
Our
Savior came as was foretold,
And
He shall surely bring to pass
The
future promises we hold.
His
promises shall have their end,
And
thus we rest our expectation
On
Jesus Christ, our surest Friend
And
Finisher of our Salvation.
The
reason why our Lord came down
And
suffered for us on the cross
Was
to obtain the precious crown
Of
souls redeemed from endless loss.
Christ
made our expectation sure,
Fulfilling
what was prophesied
To
demonstrate His Word is pure
By
promises He verified.
O
Lord our God, we are amazed
As
we consider why You came!
You
died that sinners could be raised,
Presented
faultless without shame!
Lord,
thank You for the gift You gave
That
brought You down to be its Giver!
There
was no other way to save
From
wrath the souls that You deliver!
