“Yea, Mine own familiar friend… which did eat of My bread, hath lifted up his heel against Me… By this I know that thou favorest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me” (Psalm 41:11). “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and HIDETH himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished. By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life” (Proverbs 22:3,4). “He saved others; Himself He cannot save” (Mark 15:31).
By
this I know I have God’s favor:
My
enemy has been defeated!
He
fought so hard against my Savior;
His
dark attacks were oft repeated.
We
cannot fully comprehend
What
Christ endured in opposition;
His
own betrayer (so-called friend)
Opposed
Him to his own perdition.
A
prudent person thus foresees
That
Satan is too great a foe
And
therefore to our Savior flees;
There
is no other place to go!
It’s
not a mark of bravery
To
pass on in that fearful path
Which
enters hell eternally
Where
there’s no Hiding Place from wrath!
The
fear of God, thus understood,
Is
where true wisdom must begin.
We
thus we perceive how very good
Is
Christ, our Hiding Place from sin!
We
come with lowliness and fear,
For
God resists the heart of pride.
The
humble prayer God longs to hear
Secures
the sinner’s place to hide.
Our
Savior fought the deadly strife
To
thus become our Hiding Place.
In
Him are riches, honor, life,
And
our redemption by His grace.
He
could not save Himself AND others;
He
knew redemption’s awful price.
He
fought the fight which was another’s
And
so became our Sacrifice.
We
thank You, Lord, that You have bidden
The
sinner now to turn to You
And
in Yourself to now be hidden
Where
judgment’s sword cannot pursue.
O
Lord, You are the Saving Tower,
Our
Hiding Place from condemnation.
So
send us forth with grace and power
To
preach Your Gospel of salvation.
