Stillness of Stewards

“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).  “Doth not wisdom cry?... Blessed is the man that heareth Me, watching daily at My gates, waiting at the posts of My doors.  For whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD” (Proverbs 8:1,34,35).  “They weighed for My price thirty pieces of silver” (Zechariah 11:12).  “Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God” (1 Corinthians 4:1).

Be silent, stewards of the Lord,
As in His presence now you stand.
Be still, and find His great reward
Of humbleness beneath His hand.

The Gospel is a stewardship
With riches that the heart explores.
The Word of God will thus equip
His servants waiting at His doors.

We’re called to wait in silence first
As in His presence we rejoice.
The Lord will satisfy our thirst,
Then send us forth to lift our voice.

We see how low this earth esteemed
Our God and Savior’s Sacrifice,
And yet He loved us and redeemed
Our souls with heaven’s highest Price!

In silent worship we have halted
To contemplate our Savior’s worth
And know that He will be exalted
In all the nations of this earth.

Ah, now we are prepared to speak
Of Him who yet extends His favor
To all who will sincerely seek
And call upon our Lord and Savior!

O Lord, we thank You for this Gift
For which we are accountable:
The Gospel Message which will lift
With grace to save the sinner’s soul!

As stewards of this mystery
Of grace and truth by which You save,
In stillness now, O Lord, we see
The wondrous Gift of love You gave!
