Asking and Ascribing

“Thou hast ascended on high… He that is our God is the God of salvation... Ascribe ye strength unto God” (Psalm 68:18-34).  “Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended?  Who hath gathered the wind in His fists?  Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth?  What is His name, and what is His Son's name, if thou canst tell?  Every word of God is pure: He is a Shield unto them that put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:4,5).

So many in our day ascribe
The origin of life to chance,
And we have heard the diatribe
That argues “just so” circumstance.

Yet God Almighty is the Cause
Of everything with a beginning,
And nature’s God prescribed the laws
Where planets orbit as they’re spinning.

The questions people should be asking
About their own eternity,
They have dismissed by vainly masking
The facts that they refuse to see.

Our God has surely made this plain:
Creation must have been designed,
But fools ignore this fact in vain
And by their choice are rendered blind.

God answers seekers well intended
With questions searching information
Like:  “Who descended?  Who ascended?”
Behold the God of our salvation!

“What is His name?”  The Scriptures tell:
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
He came to save our souls from hell
And so for us was sacrificed.

Ascribe to Jesus Christ our Lord
The glory that is due His name.
How rightly He should be adored,
And we should spread abroad His fame.

O Lord our God, our wondrous Savior,
How gladly we ascribe to You
All wisdom, strength, and loving favor
Displayed in everything You do.

We ask, O Lord, that we may live
A life that manifests Your love,
Ascribing strength You freely give
To grace abounding from above.
