Proving the Prudent

"Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou peceivest not in him the lips of knowledge. The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way.... There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverbs 14:7-12). "Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying.... from which some having swerved have turned aside to vain jangling.... This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (1 Timothy 1:4-7).

Now go from the presence of those who reveal
Their foolishness by what they say,
For words have the power to kill and to steal,
Destroying those thus led astray.

We prove what is prudent and weigh what we've heard
Against what we know to be right,
For this is the standard we have in God's Word,
Exposing all things to its light.

We know there's a way which can seem right to man,
Yet death, after all, is its end,
For Christ came to save us; there's no other plan
That heaven will ever extend.

O Lord, we give thanks for the way of salvation
That's proven, since Christ Jesus came
To save helpless sinners approaching damnation
Who find refuge now in His name!
