"Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: and he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also he sent forth a dove from him... but the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark" (Genesis 8:6-9). "For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish" (Psalm 1:6). "Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death" (Proverbs 10:2).
From Noah's ark was sent a raven,
Which went forth as a scavenger.
The dove was sent, but found no haven:
Those waters held no rest for her.
The dove, by nature, turned again
To find her rest inside the ark.
We clearly see the contrast then
Of natures in those birds was stark.
The raven in that scene of wrath
With death was then content to roam.
The dove, by nature, chose the path
Where life was at to make her home.
The portrait seen within the dove
Reflects the nature of the saved,
Who long to be with Christ above
In Whom they find the rest they craved.
But in the raven, so inclined,
The nature of the lost we see,
Depicting thus a state of mind
Indifferent to eternity.
O Lord, we thank You for salvation
That changed our destiny and ways,
That rescued us from condemnation,
And gave to us a heart of praise!
