"Adam knew his wife again, and she bare a son, and called his name Seth (lit. Appointed), for God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos (lit. Mortal Frailty): then began men to call upon the name of the LORD" (Genesis 4:25,26). The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy" (Psalm 147:11). "We give thanks... remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Thessalonians 1:2,3).
The many advances ascribed to Cain's line
In Genesis Four are conveyed
In cattle, in music, and metal design,
With all of man's genius displayed.
Yet all these devices that man would applaud,
Increasing their worldly treasure,
Were not then commended in Scripture by God
As those in which He would take pleasure.
The eyes of the Lord still behold from above
The place of His pleasure and favor:
The work of our faith with our labor of love
And patience of hope in our Savior.
O Lord, we have heard where Your pleasure is found!
The words of Your Gospel proclaim:
Where sin once abounded, more grace will abound
In all who will call on Your name!
