"He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.... Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Proverbs 29:1,18). "Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him, God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with diverse miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to His own will?" (Hebrews 2:1-4).
In view of the words from our Lord's gracious lips
Which we have been privileged to hear,
We ought to be sure that not one of them slips
By lending a more earnest ear.
Since all of the words that the prophets have spoken
Were steadfastly shown to be true,
And evidence stands that no promise was broken,
We ought to show others this too!
Since judgment is looming for all who dismiss
The Bible as fabled tradition,
How shall they escape from that fearful abyss
Who scoff when they're warned of perdition?
O Lord, give us boldness and earnest desire
To preach with conviction Your Word,
To show heaven's glory and hell's lake of fire,
That hearts may now heed what is heard.
